The Jolivert, Haiti Safe Water for Families Project
|
|
|

The JSWF Project could use your support!
The JSWF project is an effective and
low-cost program to improve health in Haiti. The project was
initiated with only small, individual, private donations. More
recently, USAID/Haiti provided a small grant to purchase a second
generator, start a similar program in nearby Gros Morne, Haiti, and to
enroll an additional 1,000 families.
The JSWF project would like to expand to reach as many people in
rural, northern Haiti as possible, and continue to provide assistance
to other programs interested in learning from, and replicating, our
experiences. Your donations can help us is this vital effort.
Ways you can help:  (How to donate)
1.    Support additioning families joining the program
Although families can afford the monthly cost of
the chlorine solution, the initial cost of the bucket, tap, label, and
lid is prohibitive for rural families in Haiti. A small donation of 5
dollars will allow a family to join the project by providing the
family with a modified bucket - including spigot for safe access to
water, lid, instructional label, and initial bottle for chlorine
solution with label.

2.    Sponsor the JSWF project in a school
Schools in rural Haiti often do not have the
resources to provide clean water, handwashing stations, or sanitary
facilities for their students. The JSWF program has
worked to install the chlorine solution and safe storage buckets in
schools, as well as train teachers on safe water and hygiene
curriculum. A donation of 500 dollars will provide enough funding to
install safe storage containers in every classroom, provide chlorine
solution for one year, and teach students and teachers about safe
water, hygiene, and how to test their water to ensure it is treated
correctly.

3.    Support an evaluation trip or capital investment
Every 3-6 months, the program is evaluated by the
program coordinator and others, such as those interested in
replicating the program. The cost of an evaluation trip, including
airfare and transport to Jolivert, lodging, and equipment for water
quality testing, is approximately 1,500 dollars per person. These
trips are vital to ensuring the continued success of the program, and
for learning lessons that can be applied to other programs. A full
report is provided for each evaluation trip.
In addition, as with any program, there are recurring capital
expenses. Please contact the JSWF project
for current needs.
